Each of us has at least one friend who, while watching a film-adaptation, simply cannot shut up and only talks about how the director spoiled everything, deviating from the plot of the book. There are so many movies based on books. And today we want to present you with 5 movies which you should watch after reading the book. Sometimes the film turned out to be better than a book. Let’s move on.
1. Adaptation (2002)
Adaptation is based on Susan Orlean’s novel “The Orchid Thief” and describes the life of glorious screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. The
movie is not a typical adaptation – instead of adapting the novel, Charlie Kaufman wrote a script about how he … adapts the novel. This is a strange and interesting film with a script that is written better than many modern books. We can talk a lot about it, but it’s better to watch this movie once. In addition, the film has two Nicolas Cage (starring).
2. Jurassic Park (1993)
It is impossible to deny the success of Michael Crichton. He is the author of numerous bestsellers. However, his work does not reach the level of literary dignity that would allow them to get more success than the work of Steven Spielberg, especially the “Jurassic Park”.
3. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The true star of this list is Stephen King. “The Shawshank Redemption” is based on the story “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”. This film is considered to be almost the best movie in the world of all time, and this is definitely the best film about prison. The movie was nominated for 7 Oscars, but it was not very lucky – in that year he had to compete with “Forrest Gump”. In the end, “The Shawshank Redemption” did not get even one award.
4. Fight Club (1999)
Many people like the novel by Chuck Palahniuk and the author gathered a huge number of fans around himself. However, his books are not for everybody, while nobody can deny the quality of David Fincher’s masterpiece. The director used an adaptation of so many highly artistic techniques and technical tricks in the film, that it is very difficult not to admire this unique movie.
5. The Shining (1980)
The book is so good and the film adaptation also has success. And yet, it’s hard not to side with Stanley Kubrick’s movie, although Stephen King was not too satisfied with the director’s interpretation. Nevertheless, in our time, Kubrick’s film seems more relevant than the novel. It brings the madness of man to the forefront, but not an ominous hotel as a book does.
Sure, in 2019 will appear new movies based on the most anticipated books. Because every year more and more films based on books come out on the screens. Previously, it seemed a bad idea, because the movie, as a rule, was worse than the original work. But filmmakers produce adaptations that surpass the original material not only in popularity but also in the quality of the telling story.
